R — sometimes when i’m in the passenger seat of the car i lift my sweatshirt up and over my nose so that the person driving can’t see my bad side. i’ll probably write about it someday soon, but until then, read this essay by
(one of my fave substack writers !!!) about the indomitable desire to be thin.E — summer means nothing else to me besides copious amounts of fruit. last year i saw my friend Rayme post something called a ‘Farmer’s Bowl’ to her ig stories and i got inspired. lettuce, meat, fruit, cottage cheese and a carb! i can post a recipe to substack if you’d like?!
P — how does Billie Eilish do it? honestly, every damn time. i feel like her voice is maturing so beautifully. fave songs off her new album are: SKINNY, BIRDS OF A FEATHER, WILDFLOWER, THE GREATEST, and L’AMOUR DE MA VIE.
O — what i’m about to tell you feels like such a hack to me but it’s also kind of insane behavior? ok, so. you know how lululemon does free hemming? i saved SIX pairs of align pants that i’ve bought over the last 7 years and got them hemmed into shorts… for free. if you have pants you never wear, make them into shorts! for free!
R — it might be odd for me to recommend wine when i don’t drink but i think this is going to be the wine of summer 2024. everything does is spectacular.
T — i truly believe that candles are the cure to all of our problems and i’m loving this one. i know they’re toxic and contain chemicals and parabens but guess what? i don’t care. in related news, Nette just came out with a seasonal tomato candle that looks incredible… but it’s $90… its gonna be a no for me! why i think it’s acceptable to buy a $60 candle but cross the line at $90 is lost on me, too.
sour cherry mocktail
we all knew it would happen. we’re seeing them everywhere: cherries. the color & the fruit is having a moment. red lipstick. bright red ballerina shoes. the list goes on. i wanted to make a mocktail to honor the aesthetic. if you’re looking for a drink to serve this holiday weekend, here’s the early access recipe for paid subscribers. recipe will be available to everyone within the next few weeks!
ingredients
10 cherries, fresh (or frozen and thawed)
1/2c sugar, 1/2c water, 1/2tsp almond extract
—
2oz cherry & almond simple syrup
1oz lime juice
a few sprigs of thyme
2oz NA spirit — i like this one or this one (if alcoholic, use gin)
.5 oz NA aperitif — i like this one or this one (in alcoholic, use campari or aperol)
ice + a big clear ice cube
method
if you want clear ice cubes, start 30 hours before with this clear ice cube maker. add a few cherries in there for fun!
start by making the cherry & almond simple syrup: to a sauce pan add sugar and water. stir until incorporated and add cherries. if you’re using fresh cherries, grab this cherry pitter - it works so well. but frozen and thawed works fine, too. mash the cherries so that the juices release and bring to a boil. then, reduce to a simmer for 15ish min until thickened. strain and let cool.
make your cocktail: to a shaker, add simple syrup, lime juice, thyme, NA spirit, NA aperitif and ice. shake until chilled. pour it up into a glass with your big cherry ice cube. ENJOY!
