if you’ve read about my toxic relationship with New York then you know i’m simultaneously living my best life and dying a little bit on the inside right now. at least 90% of the last 18 months in SF i’ve sat down to eat dinner before 6pm, yet when i’m in NYC i physically cannot go to bed before midnight. the funniest part is that i woke up this morning feeling swollen, groggy, absolutely trashed (all without alcohol) and then peeped my oura ring report:
so, i guess i’m actually being overdramatic and all is well! yeah, wearable tech has me in a chokehold..and what??!! below you’ll find my weekly REPORT; what i’m reading, eating, playing, obsessing over, recommending and treating myself to
« down below, i’m including my weekly nyc food roundup for paid subscribers which will be included in the next 3 friday newsletters & will eventually become some sort of guide that lives here on substack. have a greeeeat weekend »
WEEKLY REPORT
R — i don’t know why there’s not more articles on dinner party culture. i’m fascinated by it… i love that it’s the cool/young/fun thing right now, but also find myself feeling pressure to make mine so aesthetic which can be just as exhausting as going out. maybe i’ll do a little substack series how how to throw an easy, cute & fun dinner party? lmk if that’s something you’d be interested in!
E — i’m in NYC for 3 weeks and unfortunately feel the need to eat at all of my favorite places/try new spots that have opened since i’ve left. i don’t eat out more than 1-2x per week in san francisco, so naturally i am going hard here. i will say i’m trying to eat most breakfast/lunches at home to save money where i can while i’m here because DAMN this city is expensive. peep below for the full list of where i ate and drank this week!
P — i actually couldn’t get through this entire video.. it’s too cringe. but the sentiment remains: it’s hard out there for single men and women right now. i’d love to get your take if you’re single: how has dating been for you? i haven’t dated since 2019 and really enjoyed it, but do remember feeling exhausted at times. i also think post-pandemic made things different and more difficult. comment below if you wanna start a convo!
O — i’ll never get over being able to fit my laptop in my purse amongst all of the other random shit i carry around. i got this Baggu bag last year in nyc and i’ve worn it every single day since. i’m reminded of how obsessed i am with it when i need to spend 12 hours out of the house-it legit holds everything but still looks stylish.
R — the other day my best friend asked me what shampoo and conditioner i swear by for thick/curly hair and it took me 4 seconds to reply. i feel like Crown Affair is good for all hair types, it doesn’t break me out, and their hair towel is life changing for frizz.
T — yesterday i treated myself to a little bestie afternoon filled with candy, sandwiches, 2pm pastries and girl talk. it’s good for ur mental health to have hours in the day like these!!
week 1 in New York | the food issue
a list of everywhere i’ve had a bite or a drink at since landing in ~the big city~ i hit a surprisingly large number of spots (16 to be exact) over the course of a week. it’s…research?
Simple Cafe — unassuming Algerian spot in Williamsburg with great coffee and potatoes. perfect for a hangover.
Marlow & Sons — this has quickly become one of my favorite spots in Brooklyn. it has a great vibe and really great pastries/food. it’s perfect for a quick drink and lunch or to post up and work! i think i had to use a hotspot for wifi, fyi.
