three *perfect* summer recipes
key lime margaritas, cowboy caviar, and double berry tiramisu 🍸🌽🍓
i went to my first farmers market senior year of college with my boyfriend. it was in Davis, California and i walked around jaw-dropped, in awe of not just the produce but what felt like an endless amount of free samples. after we left, he told me he was never taking me to another farmer’s market again because i guess he didn’t enjoy walking booth to booth for ~2 hours sampling every last nut and berry. buzzkill. so glad we’re not together anymore.
as most of you know, i just finished spending 3 weeks in New York City. June is such a special time for produce on the East Coast, and i wanted to take advantage of the city’s bounty (and all the free samples). plus, i’m always up for a new culinary challenge. it’s my belief that making good food doesn’t need to be hard! with that in mind, my “New York City Market Series” was born. each day for 7 days, i walked, biked, and trained around the city in search of fresh produce that inspired new recipes.
the added challenge of this series was honestly just being in New York, where the most basic things are difficult. upon arrival, i opened my suitcase to find my hot plate shattered into 10,000 little pieces all over my clothes. then my subletter texted me telling me that the gas in the entire building was off and would likely not be fixed anytime soon. and if you’ve ever lived in NYC in the summer for even a short period of time, you know that grocery shopping leads sweat dripping in all the wrong places.
overall, i’m so glad i was able to hop out of my comfort zone for a bit and create recipe content in New York. if you live somewhere else, don’t be deterred! these recipes are meant for everyone, anywhere. you’ll likely be able to find the ingredients at your local farmers market or grocery store. summer food is all about keeping things casual, bright, and having fun; enjoying produce at its peak ripeness and sharing the love with friends.
Key Lime Margaritas
this recipe is the classic margarita elevated and made for summer. i’ve included options for both a non-alcoholic and alcoholic version below. there’s very few ingredients and it’s so easy to make!
