hi! good morning! good afternoon! whenever you’re reading this, i hope you’re well. when i asked what you wanted to see more of this year, i got lots of requests for cozy food. so, here’s the absolute coziest oatmeal bowl — it’s comforting, unexpected and almost too easy to make.
big news: this is my first YouTube video!
it’s around 11 minutes long, i have no idea what i’m doing and my content there will evolve over time, but this was just fun for me to experiment with. in the video, you’ll see my entire process for making this bowl, the best way to cut a grapefruit, why i think cooking is meditative and so on! Frankie makes an appearance too, cuz duh.
it would mean a lot to me if you subscribed to my channel. click here to do so.
Earl Grey Oatmeal

ingredients
½ cup rolled oats
water, enough to cover oats
½ cup half & half or whole milk
pinch of salt
a glug of honey or maple syrup
1 earl grey tea bag (i think this would work well with oolong too!)
½ grapefruit, segmented
handful of pecans & walnuts, toasted
butter, for serving
more milk, for serving
method
soak the oats in water for at least 30 minutes, up to overnight—this makes them extra creamy, but if you’re impatient, you can skip it.
when ready to cook, add milk, salt, and honey or maple syrup to the pot. you can drain the excess water, but i choose not to.
heat over low-medium, stirring occasionally, until just barely simmering.
add the earl grey tea bag, reduce heat to low, and let it steep as the oats cook for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. don’t rush this—low and slow keeps the milk from curdling and lets the tea fully infuse. your oats will turn a creamy brown color!
once thick and creamy, remove the tea bag and pour the oats into a bowl.
top with a splash more milk, the grapefruit segments, nuts, a pinch of salt, and a little butter.
instant oatmeal method
heat ½ cup milk with ½ cup water until just steaming (not boiling). add the tea bag and let it steep for 3–5 minutes.
pour the tea-infused milk over ½ cup instant oats, stir, and cover. let sit for 5 minutes.
top with grapefruit, nuts, a pinch of salt, butter, and a splash more milk. stir and enjoy.
Really enjoyed making these! I switched it up the second time by brewing the tea first and soaking the oats in the tea overnight.
Not hyperbole when I say this was the best oatmeal I’ve ever made. The tip for soaking the oats is game changing.
