when i think of summer, i think of the air feeling thick with possibility. it’s a time when the world strips down to its barest essentials. long days melt into warm, endless nights. there’s a freedom in shedding layers… in the way a tank top makes just as much sense in the afternoon as it does in the evening. you might find yourself in the water, daring yourself to defy the rules and swim out past your comfort zone, or in the mountains watching wildflowers bloom with a kind of impulsive freedom, as if they too are pushing the boundaries. it’s easy to move untamed in summer, feeling like anything is possible. a sense that you can be anyone and do anything. there’s a sensuality to summer that’s undeniable, from the way ripe fruit drips with juice that runs down your fingers to the scent of earth and sweat. simply put, it’s a season of indulgence.

summer is for the ones who crave more, and if you know me, you know i love summer, but, in like, very small doses. after writing you a whole Henry-David-Thoreau-ass essay about the wonders of summer, i realize this makes me sound so boring, lol. blame it on my distaste for bugs, but i can only lie in the tall green grass for so many minutes before my skin starts crawling. also, i wasn’t born with a thigh gap and there’s not enough vaseline in the world to stop my thighs from chaffing in the July heat.
now, there are good summer movies, and there are quintessential summer movies; Call Me By Your Name falls into the quintessential category for me. i’m not going to go all cinephile (ew) and bore you with my thoughts about the film, because i have nothing original to contribute. and - i know this isn’t a gossip column, but bare with me - after learning about Armie’s fanasties about cannibalism and rape to Timmy spreading Chlamydia around NYU (which is very likely a rumor but i still enjoy saying it), i’m like, not really in the mood to discuss their art on a profound level.
what i will talk about is what this movie did for Peaches. yes, Peaches with a capital P. we all loved Peaches before watching Call Me By Your Name, so don’t go telling your friends that i’m saying CMBYN put the fruit on the map. what i’m saying is… i’d bet a lot of money that there are many of us who never, before 2017, thought of a peach as a tool for self pleasure. additionally, the comments section of my instagram post makes it clear that none of us can get the peach scene out of our heads, especially when we’re grabbing them at the market.

all of that to say, this Peaches & Cream Mocktail was inspired by the film. the addition of cream is self explanatory. there’s also some other surprising ingredients to enhance the flavor complexity, but it doesn’t add any difficulty to the recipe. this should take you about 10 minutes to make and can be a great use of sexy i mean, ripe and delicious peaches softening up in your fruit bowl. enjoy!
