Pregnancy Tea
my new favorite ritual
at this point, if someone tells me a cup of herbal tea might support labor, i'm listening.
along with taking my prenatal vitamins, going to every appointment, and following my care team’s recommendations, i’ve also become deeply interested in all of the little natural rituals people swear by for supporting pregnancy and preparing for labor. whether any of them actually make a difference…. i truly couldn’t tell you. but!!! i do know that drinking a big cup of nourishing herbal tea has never made a bad day worse.
one blend that kept coming up in my yoga classes was “pregnancy tea.” it’s full of herbs traditionally used to support the body during pregnancy, and while the evidence behind many of them is limited or mixed, i figured if i enjoyed drinking it, why not?
the final push came when my prenatal yoga teacher was selling a bag after class for what felt like a small fortune. i looked at the ingredient list, ordered everything online, and ended up making more than double the amount for about half the price.
whether you're preparing for labor or simply trying to drink something a little more nourishing than your third iced coffee, homemade herbal tea feels like a pretty good place to start. while the ritual of brewing a big batch of herbal tea is for everyone, this particular blend is designed with pregnancy in mind because of the red raspberry leaf. the rest of the herbs are wonderfully nourishing on their own, though, so if you're not pregnant, i've included an easy substitution below.
i wanted this to be more than a cup of grass-flavored tea, so i blended together herbs traditionally used to support pregnancy alongside others that are known for their mineral content, calming properties, digestive support, and, most importantly, making the whole thing taste really good. i'll walk you through each ingredient below!
