it was hard to tell my friends that i quit drinking alcohol — i was afraid of how they'd react. they had known me as one way for so long, and i worried i’d disappoint them by stepping into this new phase of my life. but as it turned out, their support was unwavering. over the years, i’ve realized that true friendship is about accepting each other’s seasons of growth.
it's been almost three years since i’ve stopped drinking, and while my identity is no longer wrapped up in the term “sober curious”, i still resonate deeply with the lifestyle that comes with being alcohol-free. by cutting out alcohol, i’ve somehow found more moderation in my life, a balance i hadn’t expected. living an alcohol-free lifestyle is a choice i make daily — without strict rules, and i’m not sure it will be this way forever. but i know when that time comes, they’ll support me, too.
