i really believe that fresh bread heals everything — i have literally cried sitting over bread multiple times in my life. in happiness, in sadness, in sickness and in health… bread has been there. making it with my own hands is an experience unlike any other. there’s no pride quite like the pride you experience when you pull risen dough out of the fridge and bake it to perfection. below, you’ll find a no-fuss focaccia recipe that i think is perfect for this time of year. in other news…

my mom and i just got back from a two day trip to Sea Ranch Lodge

while there, i asked her a series of questions about her experience with motherhood — fitting, since it’s mother’s day. surprisingly, she didn’t start crying until 20 minutes into the interview (a record for her). i also wrote a bit about our relationship/the general mother-daughter bond. i ask her questions like:

what is one thing you wish more people understood about being a mother?

tell me about a time when you felt conflicted between your own desires and what you felt was best for me? how did you navigate it?

what advice would you give to mothers navigating the delicate balance between being a parent and being a friend to their children?

and many more, down below!

before the paywall goes up, i want to link the focaccia recipe i used (shoutout to my friend Olivia for sending it to me!) because it’s not mine. i tested 3 different focaccia recipes and this was the best.

to me, the hero of this recipe is the ramp green goddess pesto — if you can’t find ramps, that’s ok! i threw in an alternative for you that’s just as good. the pesto adds a bright and flavorful depth to the bread when you bite into it, but you can also just use it as a dip if that’s your vibe.

below i am sharing the pesto recipe & re-writing the above focaccia recipe in my own words, exactly how i did it. i detail how to use active dry yeast as well as share some tweaks i made and tips i learned in the process. plus, sharing my quick-pickled onion recipe we’ve been using for sandwiches! enjoyyyy.
