for so many people, January can feel dark and a little overwhelming… for me the last 3 years, it’s been a month of celebration. a month of choosing healthier options like mocktails over alcohol and taking care of myself in all of the ways i need.
this is one of the many drinks i’ll be sharing with you all for dry January in 2025. it’s made with a homemade basil and olive oil simple syrup, some lime juice, and mandarin oranges. plus, topped of with health-ade kombucha for a bubbly, delicious and good-for-you twist.
Basil & Citrus Passionfruit Sparkler
ingredients
7oz passionfruit tangerine health-ade kombucha
2 oz freshly squeezed tangerine juice
1/2 oz lime juice
1/2 oz basil simple syrup (recipe below)
1/2c sugar
1/2c water
large handful fresh basil leaves
thin slices of tangerine and a sprig of basil for garnish
basil simple syrup:
combine 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup water, and a handful of fresh basil leaves in a saucepan. simmer over low heat until the sugar dissolves. once you’ve removed the syrup from the heat, let cool for 10 minutes. then, add a drizzle of olive oil.
strain and cool in the fridge.
method
in a shaker filled with ice, combine tangerine juice, lime juice, and basil simple syrup. shake gently and strain into a tall glass filled with fresh ice. top with passionfruit tangerine health-ade kombucha.
stir lightly and garnish with tangerine slices and a fresh basil sprig.
made this tonight, but i did blood orange instead of tangerine and lemon instead of lime cause i had them on hand already and it was so good. it got me mentally playing around with a version that’s rosemary syrup, with blood orange and ginger kombucha.
Hi Olivia :) In your post you mention basil & olive oil Simple’s syrup but in the recipe I don’t see adding olive oil. Do you use basil flavored olive oil?
